Panthera pardus kotiya

Leopards of Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan leopard is a subspecies found only on this island. These photographs come from Yala, Wilpattu and Kumana National Parks.

Each leopard’s pattern of spots is unique, which allows individuals to be identified from photographs. I work with conservationists on leopard identification, and some of the leopards here are known by name.

About the codes. Identified leopards carry a code after their name. YM stands for Yala Male and YF for Yala Female, followed by that leopard’s number: Jerry is YM44, Salomi is YF71.
